I’m an American foreign correspondent focused on climate, conflict and migration.
Previously with the Guardian and the Telegraph, I’ve also appeared in The Atlantic, National Geographic, The New York Times, Time and VICE News, among others. I’ve worked in the former Soviet Union, the Balkans, the Middle East and Africa, reporting from war zones, closed cities, refugee camps, the Olympics and the coldest permanently inhabited place on earth.
I’ve broken stories including the second Skripal poisoner’s identity, the deployment of Wagner mercenaries to Libya and the anthrax outbreak from thawing permafrost in the Russian Arctic.
I’ve been honored with Scripps environmental journalism and Logan nonfiction fellowships.
