I’m a Moscow-based American journalist with a focus on the changing ecosystems and communities of the far north.

I was previously a correspondent for the Guardian and The Daily Telegraph, and my work has appeared in The Atlantic, National Geographic, The New York Times, Time, CBS News Radio and VICE News.

I’ve covered Arctic oil spills, wildfires, permafrost thaw, a floating nuclear power plant, reindeer herding, mammoth tusk hunting and polar bear patrols. I reported from war zones in Ukraine and Syria, the Olympics and the World Cup, the coldest permanently-inhabited place on earth and Chernobyl reactor four.

I’ve been honored with Scripps environmental journalism and Logan nonfiction fellowships.
